How To: Exfoliate with Oats
Making simple scrubs from everyday ingredients that are in your kitchen is a great way to give your skin a break from too many products, while still helping to heal and calm your skin naturally. Good old-fashion oats are a kitchen staple for oatmeal or homemade granola. Oats are a simple ingredient that are actually great for your skin for their calming benefits. Oats are especially beneficial for your skin when they are ground because they contain many natural oils, vitamins, and minerals that moisturize and sooth the skin. Oats can be used to make a gentle and calming exfoliating facial scrub, helping to reduce the appearance of blemishes and redness, while sloughing off dead layers of skin.
What you need:
- 2 tbsp. of oats
- 1 1/2 tbsp. plain Greek yogurt
- 5 drops of honey
- 1 small lemon wedge
Grind the oats until they are a grainy, powdery consistency - throw them in the blender or use a mortar and pestle to grind the oats by hand. Pour the ground oats into the yogurt. Squeeze in the fresh lemon and drizzle a few drops of honey into the mixture. Stir until it's evenly mixed together. Next, wash your face & hands. Then, apply the mixture to freshly cleansed skin and leave the scrub on for about 5-7 minutes or until your face feels tight. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and towel dry. Apply moisturizer as a final step to rehydrate your skin. Your skin should feel smooth and your complexion will be calmed.
