Protect: A Sunscreen Guide

There's nothing like lounging in the sun on a hot summer day and getting a tan. Nice sun-kissed skin is a summer staple but it's important to remember that protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial in order to prevent sun damage! When I was younger, I never put sunscreen on because my skin didn't really burn badly and I wanted to get as tan as possible. While I did achieve my goal of getting a tan, I also noticed my skin would scar a lot more, especially on my face. When using any anti-acne products, your skin becomes very sensitive to the sun, which causes it to burn easily and any blemishes are more prone to scarring.

By taking the extra step to apply sunscreen to protect your skin you will help prevent aging, burning, and scarring. People often think applying sunscreen is only necessary if they are spending the day in the sun, but the sun is always shining, even on a cloudy day. Did you know that 70-80% of the sun's rays go through clouds and fog? When it's cloudy you're more susceptible to burn so applying sunscreen is important. Don't worry, you'll definitely still get tan!

Adding sunscreen to your morning beauty routine will protect your skin from the harmful UVA/UVB rays and help keep your complexion looking nice. Be sure to apply sunscreen on your face, neck, chest, ears, and hands daily. These are very sensitive areas and can burn very easily. If you're spending the day out in the sun, full body sunscreen is the best way to stay protected and always remember to reapply throughout the day!

The best way to protect your body and eliminate uneven tan lines and sunburn is to apply your sunscreen like a body lotion before putting on your clothes or bathing suit, allowing for even coverage.

Look for sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These ingredients are known as physical sunscreen that creates a shield-like layer on the skin protecting it from the sun's rays.

Before you go out for a fun day in the sun, remember to bring a pair of sunglasses and a hat to help protect your face & eyes from the sun.
